The Unreal Engine 5 C++ Course Relaunches Today
My C++ course is rebuilt with 30+ hours of new lessons, updated gameplay systems, and a refined curriculum.
Five-Year Anniversary
Five years after the original C++ course launched, I have rebuilt it from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.6, supporting newer versions including UE5.8.
Over the past year, I have rebuilt the course project, redesigned its gameplay systems, expanded and reorganized the curriculum, and re-recorded every lesson.
Five years of additional game development experience and student feedback helped me refine this new course curriculum to be even better than the original. The result is a densely packed 30-hour learning path built around modern Unreal Engine 5 development, detailed explanations, and more advanced programming concepts than the original course. Read the full course relaunch announcement.
What Has Changed?
Much like the original course, we build a third-person action RPG/Roguelike. However, many of the underlying implementation details have been refined or changed significantly.
Several systems, including the power-ups, have been reworked. One example includes an entirely new pickup system that uses thousands of coins to introduce important concepts such as data-oriented design, rather than relying on an individual Actor for every pickup.
Rather than simply following along, you will develop the programming confidence and independence needed to build your own systems throughout the course.
spawning/looting thousands of coins in microseconds, using data-oriented design.
There is a deeper focus on C++ this time as well, while maintaining Blueprint integration and extensibility.
You build C++ gameplay and action systems using patterns and workflows you can apply to real production work.
When I released the original course, I did not anticipate it to become such a widely adopted training resource for so many professional teams. The redesigned curriculum includes even more practices, workflows and concepts needed to effectively work with Unreal Engine C++ across teams, without over-engineering.
The video quality has massively improved along with the voice quality and better editing for an overall much better experience.
Re-recorded in crispy HD and significantly better audio quality. (Click image for a Preview lesson)
The rebuilt edition of ‘Professional Game Development in C++ and Unreal Engine 5’ launched publicly on September 21, exactly five years after the original course.
Whether you have been waiting for the Unreal Engine 5 rebuild, or hearing about it for the first time, this is the absolute best version of the course I have created. I am very proud of the result and excited to finally share it.

New Article: Unreal Engine 5.8 Performance Highlights It is possibly the last Performance Highlights overview for Unreal Engine 5. The release of UE 5.8 marks the final release before Epic Games is moving development efforts to Unreal Engine 6. That brings the focus of 5.8 to stabilize and optimize existing features (Although plenty of experimental features were added). A couple of major performance oriented improvements include MegaLights becoming production-ready and Lumen receiving a new...
