New C++ & (Nanite) Optimization Lessons, and request for reviews!


New lessons for the C++ and Optimization Courses, plus looking for reviewers!

I've added 8 new lessons across the UE5 C++ and Optimization courses, including new Nanite case studies and a new enemy spawn system section. The C++ course is also getting close to its V2.0 release.

3 New Optimization lessons!

The 'Complete Game Optimization for Unreal Engine 5' Course has 3 new lessons in the Case Study section:

In the two Nanite lessons we significantly reduce VisBuffer and BasePass cost in our case study with a handful of practical asset and Blueprint changes. While project specific, the underlying issues are common and will likely apply to many of you using Nanite.

The Nanite lessons are something I have wanted to make for a long time, and there are many more on the way! If you haven't recently checked the curriculum, you can find other new lessons marked with the 🆕 icon.

5 New C++ Lessons for 'Professional Game Development in C++ and Unreal Engine 5'

In this new section for the C++ Course we build an enemy spawn system using DataTables, seeded randomness, selection weights, and other valuable gameplay programming concepts that are useful well beyond spawning systems.

New Lessons:

  • Setting up (EQS & GameMode)
  • Spawn System - DataTable
  • Spawn System - Directors
  • Spawn System - Spawn Cost & Monster Limits
  • Spawn System - Seeded Random & Selection Weights.

Smaller Updates

  • The course site finally has a way to resize the sidebar! Look for the resizer at the bottom-right of the panel.
  • The UE5 C++ course's multiplayer section is now planned as a separate module. Existing students will still receive it as part of the course, while the core curriculum remains focused on single-player development.
